Apr 01, 2008 - 16:22 PM
LONGUEUIL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 1, 2008) - Pratt & Whitney Canada has received type certification from Transport Canada for its new PW545C turbofan engine to power the Cessna Citation XLS+ business aircraft. Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) is a United Technologies (NYSE:UTX) company.
The PW545C, delivering over 4,100 pounds of thrust at takeoff, is the sixth engine in the popular PW500 family selected by Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. The new turbofan outfits the Citation XLS+ with a full-authority digital engine control (FADEC) for reduced pilot workload and intelligent diagnostic capability.
"The PW545C is the most recent example in our strategy to continually innovate and build on the great dependability of our market-leading engine families," said Walter Di Bartolomeo, vice president, Engineering, P&WC. "We are very pleased to be collaborating with Cessna to bring additional value to the market with the new PW545C-powered Citation XLS+."
PW500 engines today power some 1,000 business jets in 50 countries, including the Cessna Citation Bravo, Citation Excel, Citation XLS, Citation Ultra Encore and Citation Encore+ aircraft. The PW500 family has accumulated a total five million flight hours.
Operators of PW500 engines are fully backed by one of the most extensive global customer support networks in the industry with over one-half billion hours of in-service experience.
