May 22, 2007 - 00:00 AM

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND--(CCNMatthews - May 22, 2007) - Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.'s in-service fleet of 42,000 engines has accumulated over 500 million flying hours, the equivalent of covering the distance to the sun and back more than 1,000 times. Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

"This is a remarkable and industry-leading milestone," said Alain M. Bellemare, President, P&WC and Executive Vice President, Pratt & Whitney Group Strategy & Development. "Based on the number of flight hours accumulated per year, it means that a P&WC-powered aircraft takes off or lands somewhere in the world every two seconds. It confirms once again that the Pratt & Whitney Eagle is everywhere!"

P&WC engines are currently in service in 194 countries around the world, providing power to over 9,000 customers in a wide range of business, general, utility and regional aircraft and helicopter applications.

"P&WC has garnered an impressive share of world markets by building engines synonymous with dependability, reliability and value to meet our customers' needs," said Maria Della Posta, Vice President, Customer Support, P&WC. "This is underscored by the fact that the majority of the engines we produced more than 40 years ago are still in operation and providing customers with outstanding performance."

Pratt & Whitney Canada, based in Longueuil, Quebec, is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines powering business, general aviation and regional aircraft and helicopters. The company also manufactures auxiliary power units and industrial gas turbines.
