ORLANDO, FLORIDA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 17, 2006) - NBAA
Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp. (P&WC), a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company, has successfully completed today the first engine run of its new generation PW210 turboshaft engine.
"This first run of a PW210 engine represents an important milestone in this exciting development program," said Walter Di Bartolomeo, Vice President, Engineering, P&WC. "The engine ran exceptionally well and met all of our performance expectations."
The PW210 is a new generation turboshaft engine offering best-in-class performance in the 1,000 shp class for single and intermediate/medium category twin-engine helicopters. Incorporating the latest advances in material and compressor technology, as well as a dual channel, full authority digital electronic control system (FADEC), the PW210 will set a new standard in performance, ease of operation, as well as in fuel consumption. It will also provide a significant improvement in power-to-weight ratio over current engines in its class.
Launched in February 2005, the first model, the PW210S, has been selected for the new Sikorsky S-76D helicopter targeting corporate, offshore oil, hospital, airline and government operators around the world.
