Sep 26, 2005 - 00:00 AM
LONGUEUIL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 26, 2005) - Pratt & Whitney Canada's (P&WC) world-renown PT6 turboprop family is continuing to win new applications, with the selection of the PT6A-21 engine by Evektor-Aerotechnik of the Czech Republic to power its new generation twin turboprop utility aircraft, the EV-55.
The EV-55 will have a payload of 9-14 passengers or 1,824 kg (4,021 lbs) of cargo and will be powered by two 550-shp PT6A-21 engines. The aircraft will have a cruise speed of 220 knots at 10,000 feet and offer excellent STOL capabilities. The first EV-55 prototype will be completed in mid-2007, with type certification to FAR Part 23 scheduled by the end of 2008.
"The proven reliability and dependability of the PT6 turboprop family, as well as our extensive global customer support network and exceptional aftermarket services, were key factors in this selection," said Stefan Mazareanu, Area Manager, International Business Development, P&WC. "The PT6A-21 is already certified and has proven itself in the field, with a TBO of 3,600 hours. With its excellent reliability and low operating costs, it offers a perfect fit for the EV-55."
The PT6 turboprop family is the world's most popular engine in its class, with over 33,000 engines produced to date and more than 269 million operating hours. Operating in 170 countries in corporate, utility, agricultural, training and airline applications, the family encompasses power ranges from 550 shp to 2,000 shp, offering Evektor a growth opportunity for its aircraft.
P&WC, based in Longueuil, Quebec, is a world leader in aviation engines powering business, general aviation and regional aircraft, and helicopters. The company also offers advanced engines for industrial applications. P&WC's operations and service network span the globe.
